As I was scrolling through my Twitter feed last night, I saw that Sisqo’s Billboard topping hit “Thong Song” was trending, so I thought that the singer was getting sued for the song or something.
Boy, was I wrong…
What I came to find out is that Sisqo decided to team up with JCY and release an official remake/sequel to his song “Thong Song.” The original song is a classic and a summer anthem that I catch myself playing throughout the warmest season of the year on a few occasions.
The song is not awful, but it is nothing close to the original.
This time around, they replaced the iconic violin and drum line by an EDM beat. After listening to it for a few times, I asked myself “Who asked for a Thong Song remake?“.
Don’t get me wrong; the song is not awful, but it is nothing close to the original. The one thing that disappoints me about it is that the song does not even use the best part of the original song.
Moreover, why do the remake with JCY? I took a quick look at their Soundcloud and Instagram account, and they have less than a thousand followers on each of them. There is nothing wrong with that, but I am curious to know how this collaboration came about in the first place.
Regarding the video, where are my gorgeous black women with the beautiful booties? Now all I see in the video are Caucasian women with no backside, and that does not do the original music video any justice. Like why did they film the majority of the video in what it seems to be an indoor skating rink? What are thong chips?
What’s up with the white women with no back side?
That said, it is clear that Sisqo and JCY are not intending on targeting the same audience that the original song was targeted to when it was playing on BET in 1999.
Big up Sisqo for the remake has I am sure he is going to make a few bucks out of it, but at the end of the day, this sequel did not top the original. What did you think of the song and its music video? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below!
